Investigators believe they've found the ringleader behind a string of arsons in one Benton County community.
The suspect is a former firefighter. Daryl Wayne Proctor was charged with one count of felony arson on Tuesday, and prosecutors said he could face more charges as the investigation continues.
Since January, 56 fires have been set near Maysville. The arsons have turned the tiny town of Maysville upside-down, but people in the area said they were relieved.
"Oh yeah, we're relieved because like I say, we got to thinking: When are they going to start burning buildings down again?" said Earl Roberts.
Officials said Proctor was removed from his firefighter job in Maysville last week after he was arrested for allegedly stealing accelerant from the department.
Two other people -- Mark Wolf and Tina Stanford -- have been arrested on suspicion of participating in these arsons. Police said they are acquaintances of Proctor.
Wolf is a former firefighter from Southwest City, Mo.
