Funeral Services Set for Firefighter

Departments provided escort along highways on Monday.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday for a North Carolina firefighter who died Sunday, two days after collapsing at a fire scene.

Kelly Michael Kincaid, 41, a lieutenant with the Burke County Sheriff's Office, also was a reserve firefighter with the Morganton Department of Public Safety.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Morganton. Funeral services will begin at 3 p.m. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.

On Monday, nearly 100 vehicles joined the motorcade to escort Kincaid's body back from the medical examiner's office in Charlotte, Along the route, fire and rescue apparatus and personnel were stationed on overpasses and at exits, said Mike Willes, a public safety official. "It was a fitting tribute."

Flags are at half staff, and black shrouds have been hung on various buildings in the Morganton community.
