Children hospitalized from a carbon monoxide leak at a Johnson City restaurant over the weekend are expected to be released today, a hospital official said.

Emergency personnel responded to a call from the manager of Golden Corral, 3140 Browns Mill Road about 7:30 p.m. Sunday after two small children reportedly passed out.

According to Mountain States Health Alliance spokesman James Watson, eight children and six adults were hospitalized following the incident.

"The children range from ages 2 to 12 and, as of this morning, they are all being treated at Johnson City Medical Center," Watson said this morning. "The children were admitted for 12-hour observation. We anticipate all the children should be released today."

Watson said six adults were treated and released from Northside Hospital.

"The adults were treated for secondary exposure and released," Watson said.

The restaurant hoped to be back in business today.

"Right now, we are preparing to open the restaurant," Golden Corral District Manager Terry Tetterton said about 10:30 a.m. Monday. "The source of the leak was isolated to a boiler for a hot water heater. We are hoping to have the restaurant open for lunch today."
