Fire marshals were trying to determine the cause of a four-alarm fire that destroyed an apartment house in Hoboken on Saturday afternoon.
The fire broke out at about noon on top of a four-story building on Jackson Street.
It spread quickly to a neighboring church and sent up thick acrid smoke that could be seen from miles away.
Firefighters from Jersey City were called in to assist.
The blaze was finally brought under control at about 4 p.m.
There were no injuries, and the American Red Cross was helping residents who had been displaced.
