HAZMAT Crew Called to EPA in Ohio

Freezer malfunction is the reason for concern.

Cincinnati hazardous materials crews have been called to the Environmental Protection Agency building in Corryville on a report of a possible biohazard incident.

Firefighters were called to the Jefferson Street building shortly after 11 a.m. after EPA officials reported that a freezer that normally keeps materials at 39 degrees was running at 140 degrees.

News 5's Brian Hamrick said that the concern is that the freezer could overheat to the point of exploding, possibly releasing material inside or near the freezer.

Officials have not said what is in the freezer, though Hamrick said styrene may be one of the items involved.

Hamrick said firefighters are trying to determine the best way to handle the incident.
