OWSLEY, Colo. -- An Owsley County firefighter has bonded out of jail after allegedly assaulting and menacing a Kentucky State Trooper at the scene of a triple-injury accident Saturday night.

The accident occurred on Fish Creek Loop Road near Booneville about 9 p.m. Saturday. Richmond Post Spokesman Trooper Chris Lanham says Trooper Sonny Dunaway "forcibly arrested" 28-year-old firefighter Chris Gabbard of Booneville, described as a scuffle between the two. Dunaway and Gabbard had both responded to work the scene of the accident.

Gabbard was treated for a minor injury at Kentucky River Medical Center following the incident. He was then incarcerated in Three Rivers Regional Detention Center in Beattyville and released on bond Sunday.

KSP Spokesman Lanham says Dunaway is a seven year veteran officer and a resident of Beattyville. Dunaway remains on duty.

Lanham said, "The use of force by Trooper Dunaway is being investigated by a supervisor, per Kentucky State Police policy and procedures."
