Interim Fire Chief Named in D.C.

Battalion Chief Brian Lee was picked to manage the department.

Mayor-elect Adrian Fenty made another round of appointments on Friday, including an interim fire chief.

Fenty picked veteran D.C. firefighter Brian Lee, who now is a department battalion chief.

During his campaign, Fenty promised to shake up the management of the fire department, which has been embroiled in controversies about staff training and emergency medical response.

Fenty said interim Chief Lee is one of several strong candidates for the permanent job. But Fenty also said it may be several more weeks before he finishes his review of those candidates.
