William C. Daywalt, chief of administration with the King of Prussia Fire Department, died nearly a week after a fire destroyed his home.

A retired firefighter and current administrator with a local fire company died from injuries suffered in a two-alarm blaze that broke out in his own home last Friday, according to fire officials.

William C. Daywalt, chief of administration with the King of Prussia Fire Department, died Thursday, nearly a week after the fire destroyed his home on North Gate Road in Upper Merion, according to a fire official. He served as an assistant chief for about 30 of the 40 years he spent as a volunteer fireman.

Daywalt's wife and grandchild were also in the home when the fire ripped through the home, but they were not seriously injured, according to a fire official.

A representative for the fire company said funeral arrangements were not immediately announced.
