Texas Fireplace Blaze Spreads to House

The fire spread to the fireplace's outer casing, through the flue and into the attic.

A fire intentionally set in a fireplace spread to a northwest Harris County home early Wednesday, KPRC Local 2 reported.

The Klein and Ponderosa fire departments responded to the blaze on West Cypress Villas near Kuykendahl Road shortly after midnight.

The homeowners had a wood-burning fire lit in the fireplace, officials said. The fire spread to the fireplace's outer casing, through the flue and into the attic.

"The most important thing to do is have your fireplace checked and cleaned every year," Deputy Fire Chief Jim Young said.

Part of the home's master bedroom was also damaged.

Three people inside the home escaped unharmed.
