Baltimore Firefighter Dies While Exercising

BALTIMORE, Md. -- The Baltimore Fire Department is mourning the loss of Capt. Donald Hubbel, assigned to Rescue Company 1.

Hubbel was working out at his home on the afternoon of Feb. 1 when he collapsed, and died.

On Jan. 31, he had been involved in firefighter training at the city's academy, reports indicate.

He died hours before his son was set to graduate from the fire academy, according to the station website.

The Baltimore Fire Department is considering it as a line-of-duty death.

Funeral Information

Visitation for Capt. Hubbel will be held Mondy, Feb. 4 and Tuesday, Feb. 5 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Schimunek's Funeral Home in Bel Air, Md.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 6 at 11 a.m. at Mountain Church Road, Joppa, Md. Firefighters are asked to arrive at the church by 9:30 a.m.

Interment will be held in Delaney Valley Memorial Gardens in Timonium, Md.
