Rochester Firefighters pulled three people from a burning house Wednesday with only minutes to spare. News 10NBC talked with firefighters about the heroic rescue.

Captain Bart Joseph with the Rochester Fire Department said, "We knew we had to get in fast and get to the victims."

By the time Rochester Firefighters got to the house on Grand Avenue early Wednesday morning the front porch was engulfed in flames. The smoke was intense, and they quickly found out there were people inside. So Captain Bart Joseph, Tramel Parson, Lea Weber and Malcom Bundy went in.

"They had no idea their house was on fire," Firefighter Weber said. "The front of the house was on fire the back wasn't so that had no idea what was going on."

Weber and Parson found a couple sound asleep inside a bedroom. They woke them up and helped them out a window.

"I passed them through the window to the other fireman," Firefighter Parson said.

But it wasn't over. There was a still a child inside the building. Weber and Parson relayed the message to Captain Joseph who found the boy in his bedroom. He was awake but frightened.

"I was able to pick him up, wrapped him with a blanket, gave him my mask with the help of Malcolm, Lea and Tramel, were able to walk out with him," Captain Joseph said.

When talking about what happened these firefighters speak very matter of fact. They said it's all about teamwork and credit their constant training. They refuse to call themselves hero's.

"I'm sorry that people lost some of their property, there are keepsakes and pictures that people can't get back so I wont say that I'm happy, but fortunately nobody lost their life in this situation," Firefighter Bundy said.

"It's my job. I just go to work do my job and go home," Firefighter Parson said. "Nobody got hurt, none of us got hurt. Just doing my job."

Five people on the second floor got out of the house on their own. At this point, investigators are calling this fire suspicious. One of the women who escaped the second floor said she saw a gas tank under the porch that didn't belong to anyone at the house. We asked firefighters about this and they would only say they are still investigating the fire.
