Woman Dies in Blaze at Miami Living Facility

City of Miami firefighters responded to reports of a fire in an adult care living facility on Christmas Day, and when the smoke cleared, they found an elderly woman near death in a second floor room.

According to the Miami Fire Department, the fire at the facility, located at 1150 N.W. 11th Road, activated the sprinkler system in the building before firefighters arrived at the scene.

Firefighters said that the fire began in a second floor apartment in the facility. When the smoke cleared and they reached the apartment, firefighters said that they found the woman unconscious on a bed. She was transported to a hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

The name and age of the deceased woman has not yet been released. The cause of the woman's death is believed to be smoke inhalation, according to the MFD.
