Officials said the fire could be seen for miles.

The investigation continues in Bethel Township in Miami County into the cause of an early-morning fire that destroyed horses that were stabled in a barn that caught on fire.

Officials said the fire could be seen for miles. The fire happened in the 9300 block of Palmer Road very close to the Clark and Montgomery county lines. Authorities said the barn belonged to Larry Edwards.

Investigators said a passing motorist reported the fire around 3:20 a.m. Monday. They said a number of people tried to get to the horses in the burning barn, but were unsuccessful.

Officials said people managed to get two horses and two dogs to safety from another barn on the property.

At this time, the cause of the fire remains under investigation, but it is not believed to be suspicious.

Authorities said losses to the barn, horses and contents are estimated around $100,000.
