A firefighter was injured while battling a two-story house fire in Ypsilanti Township, which displaced several residents over the weekend.

The fire started at a home on Rosewood Avenue, near Ecorse Road, at about 6:30 a.m. Saturday, according to a report in The Ann Arbor News . The building houses five apartments, all of which were occupied at the time of the fire, Lt. Vick Chevrette of the Ypsilanti Township Fire Department said.

The seven tenants escaped without injury, but several cats were reported missing, according to the report.

The house was "deemed a total loss," Chevrette said in the paper's report.

Chevrette said fire crews were at the scene for about nine hours. The Ypsilanti Fire Department assisted in extinguishing the flames. The Washtenaw County Chapter of the American Red Cross assisted the displaced residents at the scene with temporary housing, food and clothing, the paper reported.

The firefighter who was injured was treated at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital with a wrist burn and was later released.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
