DELHI TOWNSHIP, Ohio --

Three employees safely escaped a fire Friday afternoon at a Delhi Township automotive shop.

The blaze quickly grew out of control at the Jiffy Lube in the 5100 block of Delhi Road, according to witnesses.

"It was all smoke and then all of a sudden it flared up," said George Fromborf, who watched as firefighters from five departments worked to extinguish the fire.

Thick smoke and intense heat were produced as high winds fanned the flames, and the building was declared a total loss.

"With the wind it basically just took the roof off the building," said Chief Bill Zoz of the Delhi Township fire department, which was joined by Cheviot, Green Township, Whitewater Township and Harrison.

Zoz said firefighters would work into the evening to extinguish any smoldering hot spots.

No damage estimate was provided, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
