DENTON, Texas --

Police said they arrested a Denton firefighter suspected of harassing a fire department volunteer Monday.

A female member of the Denton FireCATS volunteer group filed a harassment complaint against firefighter Daniel Robert Hankins, 40,with whom she had been romantically involved, police said.

Police said the woman quit volunteering but continued to receive threatening and graphic messages and phone calls from Hankins.

"Although she reported the matter to supervisors at Hankins' station, changed her phone number and email provider, the calls and text messages continued," Denton police Lt. Len Carter said in a release.

Police said they warned Hankins on June 30 that they would arrest him if the harassment continued. Police said Hankins agreed to stop.

Police said they arrested Hankins Monday after Hankins sent two messages to the woman.
