TRENTON, N.J. -- A huge fire burned long into the night Sunday in Trenton.

Investigators are looking at whether it's a case of arson.

The fire broke out at the old Lambert Furniture store at Plum Street and New York Avenue around 8 p.m.

Firefighters arrived to find the block-long building engulfed in flames.

Fire officials said the old building was mostly vacant.

They suspect arson, saying several other suspicious fires popped up in Trenton earlier in the evening.

"There was one in Lawrence Township down this ways, a rubbish fire burning outside, and then a couple blocks in the city, Engine Six, one of our companies, was there just to extinguish a rubbish fire there when they got this call, so, something doesn't look right here," Trenton Fire Director Dennis Keenan said.

Firefighters had to draw water from a nearby canal to douse the flames.

Right now, they're tapping out the last remaining hot spots.
