COLLEGE PARK, Ga --
A College Park woman Saturday said she believes her 6year old son was responsible for starting an apartment fire which left more than two dozen people homeless.
The fire, which broke out around 730p.m. on Friday, damaged or destroyed 8 units at the Hickory Park Apartments in College Park. No one was hurt, but many of those displaced lost most or all of their belongings.
Fulton County firefighters blamed the blaze on a child playing with matches. Saturday morning, the woman who says she is the mother of that child told Channel 2 Action News that her 6-year-old had set the fire in his bedroom.
Taka Long, her son, a second son and a daughter escaped the flames, but Long said she she's "just worried for all the parents with small children who are in the same situation as myself...they're displaced as well, right before the holidays.
"So, I feel worse for them than I do for me," she said.
Fulton County firemen may speak to Long and her children about what happened on Monday.
