Renovations Hamper California Crews at House Fire

Dec. 16, 2006
The fire was a challenge because the house was possibly 100 years old, and had two or three levels of roof.

Firefighters battled a house fire in Santee early Saturday morning, NBC 7/39 reported.

The fire started in the attic of a house on Bates Lane and Pepper Drive around midnight.

About 18 firefighters from the Santee Fire Department battled the blaze, which took about 45 minutes to extinguish.

The fire was a challenge because the house was possibly 100 years old, and had two or three levels of roof, fire officials said. The hidden spaces in the roof also caused the fire to rekindle several times.

There is no word yet on what started the fire.
