Ford Truck May Have Caused Florida Fire

Dec. 14, 2006
Dozens of similiar fires in Florida led Ford to recall 3.8 million vehicles.

An Orlando man said his Ford truck caught fire in his garage on Wednesday night.

The owner of the truck said he was sleeping and awakened by alarms and a ball of fire, WESH 2 News reported.

Firefighters were called to the Park Central Apartments off John Young Parkway around 11:30 p.m. Bobby Daniel was in shock to see his 2000 Ford F-150 going up in flames.

"It looked like underneath the engine from the motor part it was just a huge ball of fire, so we ran out, knocked on doors, got the neighbors up. It looked like the building was going to catch on fire. We got everybody out of here and called the fire department," Daniel said.

Daniel said all he could do was knock on the doors of his neighbors and tell them to evacuate. No one was injured in the fire.

A WESH 2 I-Team investigation uncovered dozens of similar fires in Central Florida that eventually led Ford to recall 3.8 million vehicles. The cruise control deactivation switch was to blame in those fires. To comment on this story, send an e-mail to Gail Paschall-Brown.
