Firefighters Salute Ohio Cop

A Minster police officer was honored Wednesday for his actions that possibly saved the life of a Ft. Loramie woman, Mary Kerns, in a house fire in September.

Scott Evans was honored by the Ft. Loramie Fire Department and credited with leading the woman to safety from her smoke-filled home.

Authorities said Evans heard what he thought to be wind chimes or a cell phone ringing, but quickly determined it was a smoke alarm.

While the Kerns family always changed the battery in their smoke alarms, when time changes twice a year.

Evans will be recognized again next month when the Shelby County Firemans Association hold its annual banquet.
