Four families were forced to find emergency shelter Sunday night after a two-alarm fire destroyed an apartment on the 300 block of Checkers Drive in San Jose.
According to the San Jose Fire Department, the blaze appeared to have started in the kitchen of a ground floor department. It was reported at 5:45 p.m. and brought under control by 6:10 p.m.
No one was injured, but two adjacent apartments were damaged by smoke.
