Fire investigators said that someone intentionally a brush fire Thursday night that threatened homes before firefighters brought it under control.

The State Forestry Commission and 10 Upstate fire departments battled the fire, which was driven by winds gusting up to 40 mph.

The fire was near the intersection of highways 110 and 11, State Forestry Commission spokesman Ken Cabe told News 4.

The forestry commission brought in four bulldozers to help build fire breaks.

"The wind was causing it to head toward the houses and that was our main concern to keep the fire off the houses," Cherokee Creek Fire Chief Reggie Petty said.
