Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Fire Commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta were on hand Sunday as Brooklyn firefighters dedicated a plaque to a fallen brother.
Firefighter Daniel Pudjak of Ladder 146 Engine 229 was remembered at a solemn ceremony.
"These ceremonies are so important because they serve as a reminder to all of us that the pain of all who knew him is not diminished," said Scoppetta.
Pudjak died last June while battling an apartment fire in Williamsburg. He fell four stories while trying to put out the flames and was carrying a hundred pounds of gear at the time. It was later determined the fire was sparked by a lit cigarette left on a windowsill.
The 23 year old had been on the job less than two years.
