WASHINGTON --

A blaze broke out in a small church in Northeast Washington early Saturday, leaving extensive damage.

Firefighters were called to the Baptist church at Sligo Mill Road and Chillum Place about 4:30 a.m. Saturday, where they found the one-story building engulfed in flames.

A second alarm was sounded and the fire was eventually brought under control. No one was hurt.

Church was called off Sunday and boards covered burned out windows. Investigators were trying to determine what caused the blaze, which caused about $100,000 in damages.
