Five Dead in West Virginia Mobile Home Fire

Dec. 9, 2006
The dead included two adults: a 40-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman; and three children: a boy, 10, and two girls, 4 and 18 months.
A fully involved fire raged through a mobile home early Saturday, killing all five relatives inside, the Berkeley County Sheriffs office told News4. The fire took place at about 1:30 a.m. on Magruder Avenue in the Sportsman's Paradise section of Falling Waters, which is about 75 miles from Washington. Family members have identified the dead as David Clark Jr., 40, his wife Sherri McFillen-Clark, 36, and their two children David Clark, 10, Eryn Clark, 5, as well as Sherri Clark's 18-month-old granddaughter, Kimberly Fravel. The baby's mother was at work at the time of the fire and was the sole survivor of the tragedy. A teenage neighbor was up playing video games when he smelled smoke and tried to save their lives. When firefighters arrived, they found the trailer engulfed in flames. Investigators are still trying to determine a cause, but they are focusing on a kerosene heater that may have been too close to combustibles, setting them ablaze, fire officials told News4. The volunteer fire department from the nearby town of Bedington responded to the fire, assisted by volunteer firefighters from at least two other towns. Falling Waters is a residential community of about 7,000, located about halfway between Hagerstown, Md., and Martinsburg, W.Va. It is situated along the Potomac River on U.S. Route 11.
