WINTER PARK, Fla. --
WESH 2 News became part of the news on Wednesday night.
The 11 p.m. newscast had to be shortened when fire alarms began going off in the station's studios in Winter Park.
"For the past five minutes, you've been hearing those fire alarms in the WESH 2 building, the fire department is asking us to shorten our newscast to get out of here. The good news is everyone is safe, but as a precaution, they're asking us to leave," WESH 2 News anchorwoman Martha Sugalski said.
A security officer on duty smelled smoke and alerted station staff to call 911, and the building was evacuated.
Firefighters responded and looked for a fire, but officials said they discovered an air-conditioning unit had malfunctioned and began putting out smoke.
There was no damage reported to the studios.
