TURBOTVILLE, Penn.-- An unidentified volunteer from the Warrior Run Area Fire Department was flown to Geisinger Medical Center, Danville for treatment of injuries he sustained while batting a barn fire which broke out just after 6 p.m. Wednesday along Betz Road in Anthony Township, Montour County.

Washingtonville Fire Department second assistant chief Jim Roberts said the firefighter sustained upper body injuries after being struck by a large wood timber while battling the blaze.

According to Roberts, the firefighter was awake and alert as he was being loaded onto the helicopter. He said a second firefighter from the Warrior Run Area Fire Department was transported to the hospital by ambulance for treatment of minor injuries he sustained while battling the blaze.

Roberts said officials would be withholding the names of the injured firefighters pending notification of family members.

According to Roberts, the barn was owned by Frank Cotner of Limestone Township.

He added a relative of Cotner's who lived nearby called 911 after returning home to find the barn in flames.

Four horses were in the barn at the time the blaze broke out and were all safely evacuated from the building, Roberts said.

A state police fire marshall was on scene Wednesday night and officials said it was too early to speculate on the cause of the fire.

Volunteers from the Washingtonville, Warrior Run, Milton, Montgomery, Muncy Creek, Millville and Valley Township fire departments responded to the scene.
