A tired firefighter, below, helps make sure that a hard-to-extinguish blaze involving asphalt material stays contained early Monday.

An overnight fire at a W.R. Meadows of Texas warehouse in north Fort Worth brought out about 50 firefighters and caused an estimated $750,000 in damage.

Two Fort Worth police officers on patrol spotted the fire, which started at 11:15 p.m. Sunday at the warehouse in the 2500 block of Northeast 33rd Street.

"It was a total loss," said Lt. Kent Worley, a Fort Worth Fire Department spokesman. "The fire destroyed a lot of materials, making it difficult to determine what happened."

The warehouse, which contained solvents, is about 100 yards from the site of a massive chemical fire at Valley Solvents & Chemicals on July 28.

"There were no acids, nothing as dangerous as what happened at Valley Solvents," Worley said.

Fort Worth firefighters battled the three-alarm blaze for about four hours. A smaller crew worked until 9:30 a.m. Monday to put out hot spots, Worley said.
