HONOLULU --

Honolulu Fire Department teams extinguished sailboat on fire at the Ala Wai Yacht Harbor Wednesday.

The fire was reported at about 10:40 a.m. just behind the Hawaii Prince Hotel.

Fire crews had the blaze under control within minutes.

Smoke was coming from the interior of the vacant boat, the Mokulani.

A nearby boater called authorities about the fire.

"We arrived at Slit 50 and found some smoke coming from a 38-foot sailboat," Capt. Terry Seelig said. "We made entry on to the boat using a hand line firehouse and dry chemical extinguisher. Small fire controlled easily and quickly."

An HFD spokesman said the Mokulani is a recreational boat and rests in the front row of the Ala Wai Yacht Harbor.

Fire officials said the cause of the fire is an electrical problem.

No one was injured.
