ORLANDO, Fla. --

Firefighters rescued a baby from a car Wednesday morning after the vehicle crashed into their station.

It happened along Oak Ridge Road near Rio Grande Avenue in Orange County.

Firefighters said the 5-month-old infant wasn't even crying when they went to remove it from the wreckage. It was transported to a hospital to be checked out.

The firefighters said they heard the car crash into the station's door around 3:10 a.m.

A man and the baby were inside the vehicle at the time of the crash.

"It's just a normal call for us every day. It just happens to be that our station was the one that was hit today," Orange County Fire Department Lt. John Peters said.

"I couldn't believe that this guy is trying to make this turn going that fast, and then I realize he isn't making the turn he's going straight ahead and crashed into the fire station, and I just thought it was amazing that he was able to walk away," witness Rob Fernandez said.

Fernandez said the driver told him he was trying to avoid hitting another car.

The fire station returned to normal operations after the wreck was cleared.
