Maryland Woman Charged in Fatal Thanksgiving Fire

GAITHERSBURG, Md. --

Authorities have arrested and charged a Clinton, Md., woman with attempted murder and other arson-related charges for her involvement starting fire in a Gaithersburg apartment building on Thanksgiving morning.

Krystal Wilcox, 22, is being detained with a no bond status.

Firefighters arrived at 390 N. Summitt Ave. around 5:30 a.m. on Nov. 22 and found heavy fire in the basement of an apartment building with smoke extending to the upper floors.

The victim, a 50-year-old man who was unconscious and not breathing, was pulled from the apartment, officials said. Medical technicians performed CPR but were unable to revive him.

Fire officials said the man was found in the kitchen area of the apartment and may have had a medical condition.

More than a dozen people were evacuated from the building.
