Nearly eight months after he was severely burned in a house fire, Sgt. Michael LaCore will return to his firefighting duties on Friday.

WASHINGTON, DC (WUSA) -- Nearly eight months after he was severely burned in a house fire, STATter911 has confirmed Sgt. Michael LaCore will return to his firefighting duties on Friday.

Sgt. LaCore is scheduled to work at Engine 9 at the firehouse in the 1600 block of U Street, NW.

Sgt. LaCore was the most seriously burned of four firefighters injured in a fire on 4th Street, NE, in October.

He spent almost six weeks recovering at Washington Hospital Center's Medstar Burn unit.

Because of his extensive second and third degree burns received in the fire, Sgt. LaCore and others were concerned that doctors might not allow him to return to full duty and DC law would eventually force his retirement from the department. Battalion Chief Kenneth Crosswhite confirms that doctors have now put Sgt. LaCore back on full-duty status.

Recently Sgt. LaCore has been assigned on light-duty at the training academy.

Michael LaCore's mother, Madeline, is a long-time employee of at 9NEWS NOW.
