A two-alarm fire at an Orange County, Fla., condominium Saturday was apparently sparked during a fight between a father and his son, Local 6 News has learned.
Orange County sheriff's deputies said a man and his son were arguing when the son flicked a cigarette on a couch at the Whisperwood condominiums located at 7465 Canford Court.
The couch caught fire and quickly engulfed both levels of one condo, according to the report. The home was destroyed and several nearby condo units were also damaged.
The blaze was so intense at one point that smoke could be seen for miles in Orange County, according to the report.
Neighbors said they noticed the smoke and ran to each home to make sure everyone had evacuated the structure.
"My boyfriend and some of the neighbors started knocking on the units to make sure no one was in any of the units," neighbor Erica Cherry said. "Flames were coming out of the roof and out of the windows. You could see smoke coming out from the bottom of the door."
No one was home at the time of the fire and there were no reports of injuries.
The son apparently called 911 and reported the fire and has not been seen since.
Detectives said five pounds of marijuana were found in the home's refrigerator.
The son was not identified in a Sunday Local 6 News report.
