MUKWONAGO, Wis. --
Three people escaped a burning building that houses an apartment and business in Waukesha County Sunday morning.
Authorities said smoke poured out of the Main Street building in Mukwonago that houses a cell phone company on the ground floor and an apartment upstairs just before 10 a.m.
The owner of the building told firefighters that his cat was still inside. They later found the pet alive in the building.
"He was pretty wet. I think he took the hose a little bit, but he's still with us so that's a good thing," building owner Jerome Slazas said after being reunited with his cat.
Fire Chief Jeff Rolfe called the cat being found alive and well, a "successful outcome."
Rolfe said the building is a total loss, but did not have an exact dollar amount of the damage.
