SACRAMENTO, Calif. --
A group of firefighters battling a three-alarm blaze at a south Sacramento beauty supply store on Thursday narrowly escaped to safety after the building roof collapsed.
"We had a very close call," said Jeff Lynch, spokesman for Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District.
The fire at Nails Depot, located on 65th Street near the old Florin Mall, broke out at about 12:30 p.m.
Firefighters arrived to find the blaze raging.
Four firefighters went up on the roof, but it soon collapsed. Lynch said the firefighters managed to grab the edge of the roof and get to safety.
"Thankfully, they were near the edge of the roof," Lynch said.
Crews were pouring water on the blaze to keep it from spreading to other nearby buildings.
Authorities closed down 65th Street between Stockton Boulevard and Florin Road.
Lynch said the cause of the fire was under investigation.
