Two Loudon City firefighters were let go for not doing their jobs during a deadly blaze.
Video taken from a camera inside a police cruiser played a deciding role in the firing of Marshall Miller and Tony Russell.
It's been almost a month since 32 year-old Connie Torres, her 12 year old daughter Samantha Stevens, her 8 year old daughter Karlissa and Connie's boyfriend 26 year old Raphael Pena died in the house fire.
Cindy Gonzales, Connie's step-sister, says it never gets easier.
"It's everyday you miss them. Everyday." says Gonzales.
Now there's a new wound after learning the two firefighters were fired.
Gonzales says, "They lost their jobs, but four lost their lives. They could have done more. The cop, John Yates, had no uniform and tried to pull them out. He did everything he could but he's only one person."
Video from the police cruiser showed the police officer immediately trying to rescue people trapped inside.
While firefighter Tony Russell wasn't ready and was more concerned with a fire hose.
A document that explains why Russell was fired states, "Your decision not to wear full turn-out gear prevented you from rendering assistance to police officers who were able to pull some victims from the fire."
The video also showed another firefighter taking his time getting out of a fire truck.
According to a similar document, Marshall Miller was let go because, "Despite the presence of people in the house, the video shows you failed to exit the engine and immediately become engaged in rescue operations that were underway. This is inexcusable given the fact a Loudon Police Officer arrived after your engine and was able to enter the structure and make a rescue before you entered the house."
Gonzales says, "To know Karlissa and Samantha were so young I just don't understand why they didn't get out. Every time I think about it makes me sad."
Whether the firefighters actions or non reaction cost lives no one really knows. For Gonzales what is certain is that the pain will never go away.
10 year-old Manda Torres who was badly burned in the fire is out of the hospital and doing fine physically but is still dealing with the loss of most of her family.
Russell and Miller have 20 days to appeal their terminations.
