KINGSLAND, Ga. --

A Camden County firefighter was injured in the line of duty Sunday morning.

The incident took place while Kingsland Fire Rescue crews were responding to a house fire on Arbor Court at about 10:30 a.m.

The blaze was the second to burn at the home. According to officials, a fire broke out at the same home on Friday.

Friday's fire was determined to have been caused by an electrical problem, officials said.

Firefighters said on Sunday the inside of the home on Arbor Court caught fire again and filled with dense smoke.

Neighbors told Channel 4 that while the fire was burning the smoke from it was so heavy it was even difficult for them to see.

"We jumped out and called 911. My wife jumped out and started banging on the doors and she looked in the side glass by the front door and it was totally pitch black in there," said Calvin Stone.

Investigators said the thick smoke blocked Travis Boyd's vision and the firefighter stumbled into an indoor swimming pool.

Boyd, 35, was crawling while trying to put the fire out, but he did not see the pool and hurt his legs and back when he fell.

"You never know what to expect when you go to a fire. Especially, when the house is full of smoke and you can get disoriented in the fire. With proper training they know how to take care of themselves, hopefully, and get out," said Kingsland Fire Rescue Chief Morris Peeples.

Boyd was taken to Shands-Jacksonville Medical Center. He was released from the hospital later the same day.

In an e-mail sent to Channel 4, Boyd said he wanted to thank his partner for saving his life.

Georgia Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner spokesman John Oxendine said they determined the fire was arson.
