Responding Washington Firefighters Find Toddler Alone
EVERETT, Wash. --
Everett firefighters and police responding to a report of an apartment fire arrived at a unit inside the complex at 7:05 a.m. on Tuesday to find a 2-year-old girl alone inside, reported KIRO 7 Eyewitness News.
No one else was found inside the unit at the Fulton Landing apartment complex in the 10200 block of 3rd Avenue Southeast. The toddler was removed from the smoky apartment and was found to be unhurt after she was checked at the scene for injuries.
Everett police took the child into custody and she was transferred to Child Protective Services.
At about 7:35 a.m., the child's 27-year-old mother arrived home from taking her husband to work in Redmond, police said. Authorities said the woman told them she left the apartment at 6:40 a.m. and did not take her daughter with her because the child was sleeping.
Police said a report of the incident was written and will be reviewed by their investigations division. No charges have been filed.
The cause of the smoke in the apartment was burning food left on the stove, police said.
