An Orange County man was homeless Thursday morning, after flames tore through his home. The homeowner, Thomas Gourley, said he's lived in the house for more than 30 years. He said he has lost just about everything he owned including a 1992 Chevrolet Corvette that he purchased last week. When firefighters arrived shortly after 2:00am Thursday, about 70 percent of the house was engulfed in flames. Gourley lived in the home alone. At first he thought some sort of mechanical problem with his Corvette sparked the blaze. An investigator with the State Fire Marshal's Office said it didn't appear the fire originated in the garage. Firefighters had to be extra careful with the blaze because of some flammable materials that were inside the house. "The resident was able to advise us that he did have ammunition all over the house. Mainly riffle ammunition and approximately 40 pounds of black powder," said Batt. Chief Tom Hickman of the Orange County Fire Department. Gourley said he's a competitive shooter which explains why he had all the gun powder. He also said he had about 1,000 ribbons and trophies scattered throughout the house. Most of them were destroyed in the fire.
