Firefighters have contained a massive fire in eastern New Mexico.

The 35,000-acre blaze started on Cannon Air Force Base's Melrose Bombing Range.

About 100 residents in the small village of Floyd were evacuated.

Two structures in the community were destroyed.

Firefighters said they got a break after sunset, when the winds calmed down and temperatures dropped.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

School officials in Floyd canceled school on Thursday.
