Cleaning chemicals were mixed.
Several apartments were evacuated after a hazardous-chemical incident in Oxon Hill, Md., Thursday. A fire department spokesman said the incident happened in the 800 block of Marcy Avenue. Several cleaning chemicals were mixed that should not have been, officials said. The mixed chemicals created a small toxic cloud. The woman responsible for mixing the fluids was transported to a nearby hospital after she complained of eye irritation, said a fire department spokesman. And four kids who were in the apartment were also taken to the hospital for observation. Everyone is listed in good condition and firefighters aired out the apartment.
