2 Killed in Mississippi Explosion

JACKSON, Miss. --

At least two people have died in a gas line blast in Clarke County, Mississippi officials said.

A 42-inch propane line exploded at about 11 a.m. in eastern Mississippi, damaging or destroying five homes near County Road 621.

A one-mile radius is being evacuated.

Crews from Clarke, Lauderdale and Wayne counties are at the scene, as well as an area coordinator the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency.

The Department of Environmental Quality and the Red Cross are also responding.

The explosion was reported on the Dixie Pipeline, which carries propane gas on County Road.
