Austin Fire Department's acting Fire Chief has indefinitely suspended a Lieutenant.
The acting Fire Chief claims the firefighter didn't immediately respond to a distress call.
A department spokesperson said Lt. Michael Pooler waited two minutes to respond so he could pick up something to eat at a restaurant next door to the fire station.
Specifically, Pooler violated Civil Service Commission Rule 10.03 (D) which states "neglect of duty," and Rule 10.03 (L) which states "violation of any of the rules and regulations of the Fire Department."
Paramedics from Austin Travis County EMS reached the patient first and cancelled the firefighters' response.
They treated the patient for respiratory distress, but there is no word on that person's condition.
Pooler can appeal the decision if he chooses to.
