A collision between a fire truck and car sent one woman to the hospital. It happened just after 9 p.m. Monday on the corner of Valley West Drive and Westown Parkway in West Des Moines. Police said the fire truck was headed to Valley West Mall on a fire call when it collided with the car. One woman had to be cut out of the car and taken to the hospital. There were three firefighters in the truck when the accident happened. None of them were hurt. Witnesses said it sounded and looked very serious. "Compared to the way I heard it sound, it sounds as bad as it looks because it sounded like gunshots, but it was the glass that shattered," said witness Matt Wissink. Police spent several hours Monday night at the scene trying to determine what happened. There is no word on the woman's condition.
