An apartment fire in Columbus eventually burned down a local bar as well.

More than 40 firefighters responded to the call that came in at about 4 a.m. for the fire above the Blue Moon Bar.

But flames spread quickly throughout the entire building, destroying it.

The lone occupant did manage to escape from the fire.

"I'm surprised he got out as quick as he could because it was very heavy," said assistant fire chief Mark Kenevan. "The smoke was rolling across Hwy. 16 and 60. We did close Hwy 16 and 60 down for that, for our firetrucks and for the safety of people driving through the smoke."

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
