Investigators said a Dayton family is crediting barking dogs and a smoke alarm for its escape from a burning home on Monday morning.
Fire officials said the fire started around 1:30 a.m. in the kitchen of a house in the 1000 block of Highland Avenue. Investigators said most of the damage was contained to the kitchen.

An investigator will take a closer look at the scene, but it is believed the fire was accidental.
