Winds Whip Dallas Fires

Wind reignited portions of the house where the flames earlier had died down.

Gusting winds hampered Dallas firefighters Monday as response teams battled two blazes.

In one case, about 55 firefighters were dispatched to the 500 block of Peak Street in Old East Dallas. Investigators said a two-story house was damaged badly, and the blaze was made more intense when winds of up to 40 mph fanned the flames.

The Dallas Fire Department called in a special piece of equipment to shoot water downward at the fire.

No one was injured in the fire.

Dallas Deputy Fire Chief Michael Price said the wind made the fire more unpredictable than typical blazes. He said the wind reignited portions of the house where the flames earlier had died down.

In another part of town, firefighters battled an apartment fire in the 7200 block of Marvin D. Love Freeway in the Oak Cliff area of Dallas.

There was no word of injures caused by the fire.
