Authorities said an overnight fire in Dayton consumed one house and threatened a house next door.

The fire happened around midnight in the 1100 block of Maplehurst Avenue in Dayton. Fire officials said no one was home at the time of the fire, but plenty of people who live nearby woke up to the sounds of fire equipment.

Authorities said several neighbors called 911 to report the fire. One man said the flames were so bad that they started to head toward another house nearby.

Firefighters said the flames had such a head start that it created dangerous conditions. They said the roof of the home began to collapse.

Fire officials tried to keep the flames from spreading to other houses, while firefighters kept putting water on the main house fire.

Authorities said a woman and a child in a nearby home were evacuated from their home, while firefighters tried to get the flames under control.

Officials said the home is a total loss, but they continue to search for what caused the fire.
