HOUSTON --
A roof collapsed on firefighters while they battled a blaze at a southeast Houston home early Tuesday, KPRC Local 2 reported.
Houston firefighters said a vacant home on Southmund Street near Southbank Street caught fire shortly before 1 a.m.
The roof collapsed while two firefighters were inside the home.
"I didn't hit them on the head or anything, but when the ceiling collapsed all that heat and fire come back on them," District Chief Albert Escamilla said.
One of the firefighters suffered first-degree burns on his cheek and hand. He was taken to a nearby hospital and was expected to recover. The second firefighter suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
Several cars were parked outside of the home, but the home appeared to have been vacant. There was no electricity running to the home, officials said.
Crews tore down the house because it was considered to be a danger to the neighborhood.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
